Public comments sought for WIS 42 improvements in northern Door County
New project website details proposed improvements
(Door County) The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) Northeast Region is in the process of developing plans for proposed improvements on 2.2 miles of WIS 42 from a point just west of the west junction with Wisconsin Bay Road in the community of Gills Rock to the Ferry Landing in the community of Northport, town of Liberty Grove, Door County, Wisconsin.
WisDOT asks the public to review the proposed improvement project’s scope, schedule, and traffic impacts and provide comments before the final design. There is a comment form on the website with a prepaid mailer to reply to the project team. You can also email the project team or call them directly with your comments.
The website includes maps of the project limits and location, scope and schedule, traffic impacts, displays and exhibits.
WIS 42 resurfacing design website
The purpose of this improvement is to address the deteriorating roadway pavement and increase the overall service life of the roadway. A resurfacing-level project is being proposed.
Wisconsin Highway 42 is known for its curvy stretch between Timberline Road and Porte des Morts Drive in Door County. The road’s 15 curves are a popular destination for photographers and drivers.
- This project will not alter any of the unique curves or spectacular views while driving the roadway.
Construction is currently scheduled for 2028. The road will remain open during construction. The road is part of the Door County Coastal Byway and a National Scenic Byway.
