Important Notice About USPS Postmark Timing
Please be aware of recent USPS processing changes that may affect the date your mailed items property taxes are postmarked. This will affect your property tax payments sent through the mail
As a general overview:
-
Envelopes are not postmarked on the day they are picked up unless they are collected within 50 miles of a regional processing facility.
-
Door County is not within that distance, so mail placed in a mailbox will typically be stamped the following day—and sometimes 2–3 days later, especially around weekends and holidays.
-
This is particularly important for anyone placing mail in their home mailbox on the 31st, as the postmark may not reflect that date.
To ensure your item receives a timely and accurate postmark, you should either:
-
Bring it directly to your post office and request a same-day hand stamp, or
-
Submit your payment or document electronically.
Please note that property tax payments if mailed must be sent to the County Treasurer at 421 Nebraska St, Sturgeon Bay, WI 54235
