Highway 57 Closure at Hibbard Creek Begins Tuesday, Sept 2, 2025

WIS 57 multi-year bridge construction project resumes next week in Door County

Full closure of WIS 57 at Hibbard Creek starts Tuesday, Sept. 2

(Jacksonport) The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) Northeast Region announces the WIS 57 bridge improvement project in Door County will resume on Tuesday, September 2, 2025. Crews will replace the WIS 57 structure at Hibbard Creek. There will be a hard closure (no vehicles may cross) at the structures during construction.

WIS 57 at Hibbard Creek (Jacksonport):

  • Construction: September 2, 2025 to November 2025
    • The existing culvert pipes at Hibbard Creek will be replaced with a new at-grade slab span bridge.
  • Traffic Impacts: WIS 57 will be CLOSED AND DETOURED during the replacement of the drainage structure.
    • No vehicles will be allowed to cross the structure during construction.
    • There will be no access across the stream.
    • Local, business, and emergency access will be always maintained.
  • Detour: WIS 57 detour will follow County V, County A, and County E during construction.

The project began in 2024 with the completion of two structure replacements at Lily Bay Creek and Geisel Creek in the town of Sevastopol. Earlier this year, the existing culvert pipes at Logan Creek were replaced with a new at-grade slab span bridge. This Hibbard Creek structure is the last structure replacement as part of this multi-year construction project.

Pheifer Brothers Construction Co., Inc. of Neenah, Wis., is the Prime Contractor.

Project benefits

Replacement of the existing deteriorated culverts with new drainage structures will reduce the regular maintenance and intermittent traffic disruptions at these locations.  The new drainage structures will also improve drainage under the highway at these locations, reducing saturation and improving longevity of the road core.  Flattening of roadside slopes and removal of guardrail at the Lily Bay Creek crossing and upgrades to guardrail to current standards at the other three crossings will improve safety.

Work Zone Safety

Each year in Wisconsin, both highway workers and motorists are killed and injured in crashes that happen in highway construction zones. Motorists should slow down, be patient, and pay attention to their surroundings in this and all work zones.

For more information regarding work zone rules for motorists, the law restricting hand-held devices, and general work zone safety information, please see our work zone safety website at https://wisconsindot.gov/Pages/safety/education/workzone/.
